- Illinois and New York war for the most drama surrounding a senate appointment award. The day after the inauguration, Caroline Kennedy pulled herself from consideration, citing her desire to be available for her family and her ailing uncle, Senator Ted Kennedy, who suffered a seizure during the luncheon following the swearing in ceremony. Of course this has not quelled the speculation one bit.
